Elevation Gain: 1,200m
Route: Golden Scrambles Trip Report
Difficulty: Short moderate section 20m from summit
Awesome sustained views from the Mount Ernest Ross ridge up and down make the 300km drive from Calgary more than worthwhile.
There is practically no approach to this scramble. You park right at the trail-head on the north side of highway 11 to the right of a drainage. This spot is simple to find thanks to the Mount Ernest Ross mountain name sign 50m south. For exact coordinates refer to the gps track.
There is a well worn trail from the highway all the way to the summit except for in a few places where abrupt bends on rock require a short survey of the area to regain the proper path. Pictured below is one such place where you want to head left along the edge of the woods to the rocky ridge where you’ll pick the trial up once more. Resist the temptation to step over the cairns and into the bush as I did.
The only bits of scrambling are right before the first summit and again the final 20m before the second (true) summit where the register is located.
