Mount Shark = Awesome.
This phenomenally fun little mountain is packed with the perfect mix of ridge walking and hands on moderate scrambling and is a highly recommended trip. Incredible views from the ridge attempt to steal your attention away but the route has just the right amount of risk to pull your focus back to the rock. You can see incredibly far and wide from the summit.
Getting to the base of Mount Shark is fun, scenic and easy. Park at the Mount Shark parking lot and bike 4km to Watridge Lake. Just as you begin to see the lake through the trees you come to a T intersection with the left branch signed as Karst Spring Trail. Turn left here towards Karst Spring, you (get to) hike the entire length of the spring as a bonus! Drink as much spring water as you can, it’s the cleanest purest water around. When the Karst Spring trail tops out (there is a bench & railing) look to your right and you’ll notice a couple faint trails leading up a steep embankment. They all eventually join up with a little footpath that takes you right to the treeline at the base of Mount Shark. While the footpath is a bit overgrown it’s definitely not ‘bushwhacking’.
From the treeline at the base of Shark the way to the summit is obvious (up, up, up) and there are cairns all over the place. Enjoy!
